150 factories closed amid worker unrest in Ashulia

 


Around 150 garment factories have been shut down due to labour unrest in the Ashulia industrial areas.


It is known that 70 to 80 factories in Ashulia were closed yesterday due to ongoing labor unrest. At least 140 to 150 factories have been closed today.


From 8 am today, 140 to 150 factories located in Yarpur and Ashulia Union under Ashulia Thana including Hamim Group, Sharmin Group (Jamagra to Jirabo, Bishmail from Jirabo and Tongabari to Bangabandhu Road area) are seen closed.



Meanwhile, seeing the closure notices at the gates of the factories, the workers are staying in the nearby streets. Army, Industrial Police, BGB and RAB are on patrol to control the possible situation.



However, Superintendent of Police of Industrial Police-1 Sarwar Alam said that the authorities have announced the closure of 86 factories in Ashulia Industrial Area for an indefinite period. Besides, general holidays have been declared in 133 factories. Army, Industrial Police, BGB and RAB patrols are continuing to control the situation.
